Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever
The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
